I recently embarked on an unforgettable seven-day adventure on a Traflagar guided group tour through Prague, Budapest and Vienna. This journey was nothing short of spectacular, featuring expertly curated excursions and the joy of forming instant new friendships.
In Prague, we meandered through the enchanting cobblestone streets of the Old Town, each turn revealing a piece of history and charm. Budapest offered us the stunning beauty of its skyline from the serene waters of the Danube River. Vienna dazzled us with its grandiosity as we toured its largest museum and soaked in the culture of this magnificent city. Along the way, we made delightful stops in picturesque towns like Bratislava and Esztergom, each offering its own unique allure.
Despite my extensive travels, this trip stood out as a truly unique experience. Professionally, I host a travel video series for AAA – The Auto Club Group, highlighting amazing U.S. activities available at a discount with a AAA Membership. Personally, I’ve traveled solo across various countries and even lived in Paris, which made me initially hesitant about joining a group tour. However, this trip dispelled all my preconceptions about group travel. The camaraderie, the expertly planned itinerary, and the joy of shared discovery made it an extraordinary experience. It reminded me that sometimes the best adventures are those we take together.
Before my trip, I had heard some of the misconceptions about group travel, such as: rigid schedules not allowing for personal exploration, itineraries planned for inexperienced travelers only, and impersonal interactions. I even thought I was too young for tours. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that group travel isn’t any of these things.
Group tour travel is for everyone. Well-organized tours, like those by Trafalgar, balance structured itineraries and free time, offering both guided experiences and personal discoveries. Our tour group spanned multiple generations and we honestly felt like one big family. Age didn’t matter at all; what united us was a shared passion for travel.
As a frequent solo traveler, I appreciated the safety and comfort of group travel. Our travel director, Judith, was excellent, providing guidance throughout. We met local specialists who enriched our journey with insights into each city's history and culture. With the itinerary planned for us, the trip was stress-free, allowing us to enjoy without worrying about hotels or transportation. The schedule included ample free time, and I managed to check off items from my personal travel list. Group travel is an opportunity to connect, learn, and enjoy the journey without the usual hassles.
The free time offered on the tour allowed me to explore on my own and experience a must-see destination on my personal travel list: the Klementinum Library in Prague. Seeing it was dream come true and it certainly lived up to its reputation as the most beautiful library in the world. As the second largest building in Prague, the library houses 20,000 books, some dating back to the early 17th century.
The library’s awe-inspiring 136-foot-long main hall has remained the same since the 18th century and features floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, intricate spiral wood pillars, gilded carvings, elegant gold leaf railings and a collection of massive gold and black geographical and astronomical globes. But the crowning glory is the domed ceiling, decorated with elaborate frescos painted by Jan Hiebl, depicting the blue skies and angels found in the Temple of Wisdom, a mythological Greek city. The Klementinum Library is an unforgettable journey through time, art, and history.

Listen todayEach city that we visited unveiled its own set of extraordinary experiences. The excursions that Trafalgar had arranged not only immersed us in the true culture of Prague, Budapest and Vienna but enriched our tour with unforgettable moments that we wouldn't have discovered on our own.
In Vienna, we visited the Museum of Fine Arts. I was initially hesitant about going with a group since I like to explore museums at my own pace. However, the experience was fantastic. An expert art historian guided our private tour, providing rich context for the pieces we saw. Having exclusive access to an art professional enhanced the visit and the tour moved at a comfortable pace, allowing me to pause and study the pieces that interested me most.
In Budapest, we sailed along the Danube River on a dinner river cruise. It was such a unique way to see the city’s historic sites. We enjoyed a delicious and colorful spread with traditional foods like goulash and chicken paprikash. The day before, the group participated in a cooking demo where we learned how to make some of the same dishes and have insight into the extensive time that’s needed to make each dish.
I believe that regardless of your travel style, choosing a guided group tour is an experience that surpasses expectations. My tour with Trafalgar not only opened doors to remarkable destinations around the globe, but also created opportunities for me to make meaningful connections with fellow travelers. Traveling with Trafalgar goes beyond sightseeing; it's about immersing yourself in the culture of each destination, guided by experts who unveil hidden gems and local insights that enrich your adventure. It is a seamless blend of comfort, convenience, and authentic discovery.
