When was the last time you really danced?
Sure, you’ve joined in for the Electric Slide at a few weddings. But when was the last time you cut loose and had a ball on the dance floor?
Gerry “Rocky” Seader, drummer and bandleader of Rocky and the Rollers, has heard this over and over again from passengers on his Rockin’ Cruises during the past decade. Since the early 1980s, Rocky and the Rollers have been playing with some of the biggest names in rock ’n’ roll from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, and their musical cruises have proven to be a can’t-miss experience for those looking to twist and shout to the best tunes from that golden age.
“I’ve never seen anyone go away unhappy from this cruise,” Rocky proudly proclaims. “They just thank me again and again for bringing back memories of wonderful experiences from their youth—whether it be a high school dance with their sweetheart or time spent listening to a record on repeat in their college dorm room.”
For passengers on Rocky’s cruises, experiences from years ago can come springing back to life.
“When I was in college, I was a disc jockey for the local radio station and would often be asked to judge twist competitions,” recalls AAA Member Bill Leavitt. “I wasn’t much of a dancer, but figured I ought to learn the twist. Freddy Cannon was my favorite artist to twist to. On the Rockin’ the Caribbean® cruise, I’ve gotten to do the twist while he sang live. I even got to meet Freddy and take pictures together. It was a dream come true."
The opportunity for fans to meet their favorite musicians—and for the musicians to get to know their fans—is something that truly sets Rocky’s Rockin’ Cruises apart.
“On lots of similar cruises, the acts fly in to perform their shows and fly out as soon as they’re done,” says Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, formerly of Sha Na Na. “In the years I’ve been performing on this cruise, I’ve not only met countless great fans, but I’ve built friendships that go beyond the ship. I’ve gotten to know people who have been fans since they were 12 years old, and on this cruise we don’t just say ‘hi’ at the merchandise table—we’re able to spend time together by the pool or in the coffee shop.”
Aboard the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas, Rocky’s Rockin’ Cruises travel through the Caribbean for seven days. Along the way, guests will get the chance to soak up some sun and explore stunning ports of call. Of course, it’s the music that makes these cruises special.
Those taking part in Rocky’s Rockin’ Cruises will experience exclusive concerts from over a dozen classic acts through events like the Prom Night Dance, Goodnight Sweetheart Dance and Let’s Get Ready to Rock Dance Party. There are also intimate Q&A and autograph sessions, as well as rockaroke, where cruisers will have the chance to turn the tables and perform for the rock ’n’ roll icons.
For Bill, the AAA Member and frequent cruiser, there’s more than enough excitement to keep him coming back.
“I never dreamed that I could have so much fun meeting and dancing to groups from when I was growing up,” he says of his experience on three Rockin’ the Caribbean® cruises. “Some of the acts are favorites I’ve been listening to for decades, while others are brand new to me. You wouldn’t think you could be introduced to new music 60 years after it topped the charts, but these cruises are always full of great surprises!”
“Everyone takes away something unique and special,” Rocky says of the cruisers—and the musicians. “I can promise that you’re going to have lots of fun and it’s going to bring back some great memories—maybe even some that you forgot.”
